IUI Treatment in Hyderabad
Intrauterine insemination places prepared sperm directly into the uterus, timed to ovulation. It is less invasive than IVF, involves fewer medications, and costs considerably less. For the right diagnosis it is a reasonable first treatment step.
For the wrong diagnosis it is time spent. Which is why the question that matters is not "how does IUI work" but "is IUI the right thing for us", and that requires an assessment first.
Who IUI may be considered for
IUI is generally considered where the fallopian tubes are open and sperm parameters are adequate, and where there is a reason to think that placing sperm past the cervix at the right moment will help. Situations where it is commonly discussed include unexplained infertility, mild male-factor findings, ovulation problems being treated with induction, and cervical factors.
Whether it applies to you is a clinical judgement made after evaluation, not something to decide from a web page.
When IUI is usually not the right step
This section matters more than the one above.
IUI is generally not appropriate where both fallopian tubes are blocked, where sperm parameters are significantly reduced, or where ovarian reserve is low enough that time itself is the constraint. In some situations moving directly to IVF or ICSI is the better use of both time and money, and being told that at the start is more valuable than trying a cycle that was unlikely to work.
How a monitored IUI cycle works
- Planning The cycle is planned from your assessment: whether ovulation induction medication is used, what is being monitored, and roughly when in the cycle the procedure will fall.
- Cycle monitoring Follicle development is tracked by ultrasound over several visits. This is what "monitored" means, and it is the part that determines timing. It also means several short appointments within a two-week window, which is worth planning around.
- Ovulation timing Once follicle development reaches the expected stage, ovulation timing is confirmed or triggered, and the insemination is scheduled to it.
- Sperm preparation The sample is prepared in the laboratory to concentrate motile sperm.
- The insemination The prepared sample is placed into the uterus through a fine catheter. The procedure itself takes a few minutes, does not require anaesthesia, and most people describe it as comparable to a cervical smear.
- Afterwards Normal activity can be resumed. A pregnancy test is done after an interval that will be specified. Testing earlier tends to produce results that mislead rather than reassure.
How many cycles are usually considered
IUI is generally thought about as a short series rather than a single attempt or an open-ended one. If it has not worked after an agreed number of properly monitored cycles, that is itself information, and the sensible response is to reassess rather than repeat.
The number that makes sense in your case depends on age, diagnosis and what the assessment showed, and it should be agreed at the start rather than decided cycle by cycle.
Moving from IUI to IVF
Reasons to change plan include a set number of unsuccessful monitored cycles, a new finding on reassessment, or age-related change in ovarian reserve. Making that decision in advance, with criteria set out, prevents the common pattern of repeating a treatment because it is familiar rather than because it is indicated.
Common questions
Is IUI painful?
Most people describe the insemination as comparable to a cervical smear. It takes a few minutes and does not require anaesthesia.
How many visits does a monitored cycle involve?
Several short appointments within roughly a two-week window, because follicle development is tracked by ultrasound to determine timing.
How soon can a pregnancy test be done?
After a specified interval, which will be given to you. Testing earlier tends to produce results that mislead rather than reassure.
Should we try IUI before IVF?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. Where tubes are blocked, sperm parameters are significantly reduced, or ovarian reserve is low, going straight to IVF or ICSI can be the better use of time. The evaluation decides it.
