Fertility care in India is delivered by doctors from several different training routes. Many fertility clinicians come through an MS or DNB in obstetrics and gynaecology and then add fellowship training in reproductive medicine. The MCh is a different route: a full surgical super-specialisation, taken as a structured programme, in reproductive medicine and reproductive surgery together.
The practical difference is scope. It covers the assisted reproduction pathway, and also the surgery that sometimes has to happen before or instead of it. Endometriosis, fibroids, polyps, adhesions and structural problems inside the uterus all sit at that junction, where the real question is whether to operate first, go straight to assisted reproduction, or combine the two. Having both skill sets in one clinician means that decision can be made on clinical grounds rather than on what the treating doctor happens to be able to offer.
